Goin' Home

Old mailbox is hangdog on
A locust wood post.
Mouth open waitin'
For a letter or card.

Windows are bright eyed
Glancin' out
Peepin' around
Hopin' for company.

Wood smoke curls
From top the chimbley
Sendin' out tendrils
Seekin' the lost.

Heart of the mountain calls
Cries to the wanderer
"Where you been
Where you been so long?"

Water skipper pauses
As it dances and skates
Wonders when
Wonders where y'all are.
